Live Band Karaoke | RockStar Karaoke
What a rush! My turn. I selected a song from a book close to the stage, the band members seem nice, I know I'm not as good a singer as them and never will be; yet I'm gonna be able to stand front and center stage with one of the best ( in this case I think THE best ) bands in my local area and sing one of my favorite songs. I picked "Something About You" by Level 42, an 80's one hit wonder tune from a jazz-funk-fusion-rock band that merited more.
Just heard my name called, I walk to stage......whoops, they said "Dana your on deck" not "Dana come on up"
and I just walked to the stage when it wasn't my turn! I hide by an enormous speaker by the Bass Players feet
for a moment, giggle with the crowd, return to my seat and wait.
Don destroys the place with "Proud Mary" I'm on my feet clapping and whistling he's so good. I have to go next. I don't want to follow that , for a moment I don't want to go on stage, but wait....This is my song and it'll be my stage for one song, just be me sing a song I like and it'll be OK.
I'm looking out on a full house, stage lights blurring everything above people's heads. The Bass Guitar, Drums, and Lead guitar kick in the songs intro, the Bass Drum is eleven inches behind my knees and the impact and sound from it makes the bell bottoms of my pants move like a flag in the wind..
a little startling.....so this is what live band members experience up here?
I missed the first word of the song.....it's ok ....Earl (the bass player) sang it, and he's looking at me smiling just waiting to hand the lyrics to me so I can sing my song.....OK I've got the lead now and am starting to settle in...is that karaoke machine or machine karaoke?
I find the groove in the song and I'm comfortable singing, I hear the band members harmonizing with my voice as lead...
for awhile that's hard to accept...."My voice is singing lead" seems out of place. I settle in a again and listen to them as I sing....OMG
it's eargasm to hear voices that good with mine while I sing. I'm not sure how  I'm doing but I know THEY are good.
Nobody boos. My fear that a roomful of Simon Cowells will make me feel bad is dispelled. This is a special crowd. Supportive. Not a competition, this is about fun, pushing past limitations, lots of mutual support.
Crash!!!! the end of the song from drums and guitar. Could anyone tell my legs were shaking "just a little bit."
Don't know. Don't Care. What an experience to do that with such gracious talented musicians, and I as a person I just grew a little bit.
Walking off stage a guy high fives me. Whew. Did it. Can't wait to watch listen learn and then sing another song.
